Ark Encounter

The Ark Encounter in Williamstown Kentucky is quite amazing.

Having no idea what to expect, I was fascinated not only at the sheer enormity of the finished product but at the education I received while walking through the exhibits. The most amazing things were brought to light. I have more questions than answers. I also have a huge appreciation for those who tirelessly and with great effort brought this exhibit to life.

Approaching the Ark Encounter structure is breathtaking. It is just as you would expect- enormous. It is made of wood and looks to be impossible to build. Yet with God… Noah and his family constructed it. It is to scale, meaning, it measures just as written in scripture. Undeniably the most astonishing structure I have ever seen.

Knowing the Ark as an exhibit has historical missing pieces, there was some creative license. Yet, all creative license is based on facts collected from the time period or current archeological resources.

In Genesis 6, the truth of how quickly man turns from God is staggering. In all the entire world, only one man and his family still worshipped God. Only one. It took one man to be obedient to change the course of human history forever. The story of Noah and his family begins here and runs through the 11 chapter of Genesis. You can read it here. Noah and his families amazing story.

Between the story in scripture and the exhibit in Kentucky, I am fully blown away by God and his power.

The force of all that water. The promises of his covenants both before the flood for Noah’s safety and after with the rainbow. The idea we serve God who could destroy all of this with one thought yet doesn’t because he loves us. He cherishes us. He wants for us what he has offered- redemption and eternity with him.  He sent his son to rescue us in our flood of sin and compromise. He provided his word as a guide, a how-to manual for living in any century. He holds out his hand, waiting for us to take it and make him our own.

I hope you enjoy the following pictures of our visit to the Ark Encounter.  And I hope you remember Jesus is for you, today, tomorrow and always.
